“…its gut-rending emotions remind me of the Shakespeare tragedies I read in college. Its war scenes remind me of Lord of the Rings, complete with impossible odds and life-changing decisions. And its jewels of wisdom remind me of the works of C. S. Lewis.”—William Polm
“From hydraulic pistols to steam-driven cable cars, this felt like a fresh and creative sword and sorcery world—one running parallel to our own.”—Adam Collings
“K.M. Weiland writes without holding back. She pours an onslaught of visual and emotional power into each scene with a style that slams you between the eyes, knocking you into portal wars and worlds as dangerous as they are beautiful.”—Naomi D. Musch
About the Book
What if it were possible to live two very different lives in two separate worlds? What if the dreams we awaken from are the fading memories of that second life? What if one day we woke up in the wrong world?
In this fantasy thriller, a woman on a black warhorse gallops through the mist in Chris Redston’s dreams every night. Every night, she begs him not to come to her. Every night, she aims her rifle at his head and fires. The last thing Chris expects—or wants—is for this nightmare to be real. But when he wakes up in the world of his dreams, he has to choose between the likelihood that he’s gone spectacularly bonkers or the possibility that he’s just been let in on the secret of the ages.
Only one person in a generation may cross the worlds. These chosen few are the Gifted, called from Earth into Lael to shape the epochs of history—and Chris is one of them. But before he figures that out, he accidentally endangers both worlds by resurrecting a vengeful prince intent on claiming the powers of the Gifted for himself. Together with a suspicious princess and a guilt-ridden Cherazii warrior, Chris must hurl himself into an action adventure battle to save a country from war, two worlds from annihilation, and himself from a dream come way too true.
More Praise for Dreamlander
“If you enjoy gritty epic fantasy books with a liberal dose of swordplay and can tolerate a bit of graphic violence, Dreamlander by K. M. Weiland is the novel for you.”—Janalyn Voigt
“I love that [Weiland] writes for both men and women in her science fiction and fantasy stories. Themes involving finding and accepting one's destiny are universal.”—C. Estrella
“The fish-out-of-water aspect of Chris crossing into a new world has been done many times, but [Weiland] keeps it fresh and intriguing throughout the story.”—Jason Joyner

I stumbled across K.M. Weiland while on a blog hop, where I was so hoping to win some new books. Alas, I did not win (bummer), but I still managed to snag a book for free. I’ll admit that I’ve gathered quite a collection of free e-books, and many of them have been free for a reason, shall we say — unfortunately, not all of them are well-written, well-edited, or well-done. Dreamlander, on the other hand, was a very pleasant surprise. With overtones of classics like Lord of the Rings and recent fantastic reads like Carr’s Darkwater Saga, not only is this book very beautifully crafted, with striking imagery, intense emotion, and complex characters, but it drags you into this land of dream vs reality and does not easily let you get back to your own normal, boring life. The story presents such a great premise (“What if your dreams were actually your other life lived in another place?”) with such rich detail and tangibility that you almost find yourself questioning what is real in your own life. It is a story that makes you think and feel and question and evaluate and really want to know what happens after the novel ends.
There is nothing better than a story that grabs you and won’t let you go, even after you’ve gotten to the last page, and Dreamlander is one of those novels for me.

Dreamlander edition by KM Weiland Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
It took me a few chapters to get into Dreamlander, but I think that is typical for most books if not all books. This book is a great read. There were a few stumbling blocks for me, but most were the fault of taste and not necessarily of writing. My only complaint would be that there were times that the action was hard to follow just because the scene wasn't set.
The writing is very descriptive with some beautiful quotes and some amazing metaphors. The characters very quickly endear themselves to you, and the development is enrapturing. The world building is wonderful, and she took the time to create new fruits, plants, and medicines. It brought to life a unique fantasy experience. Don't expect high fantasy, this is closer to a mixture between steampunk and Narnia with a bit less whimsy and a good deal more "grit". I imagined a very bright, bombastic setting full of steampunk elements and hints of Renaissance flair.
The plot is engaging and, while not always fast paced, always keeps your attention. Wieland wove a lot of culture and politics into the story, making even the slower moments tense and bringing a very real danger to the characters from even their own people. Hero worship and demonization switched back and forth as the characters struggled to hold to their convictions. The antagonist is a bit distant, but the danger he created was very present and always took things a step further than you expected. The battle scenes were intense and painted a picture of World War 1 horrors while always taking a turn for the worst right when you expect a respite. Finally, the ending was heart wrenching, but so right, with plenty of heavy emotion and satisfactory growth. I do know that Wieland is working on a sequel at the moment and I am quite eager to see the finished product as well as to read more of her work. For a book that is free to kindle at the moment, you will not find a lot of fantasies as well crafted as this.
It took me a few pages to find my footing in this thrilling saga of a dream traveler split between two worlds. Chris the Gifted has struggled through life in the real world ever since he lost his mom and sister when he was a mere twelve years old. Constantly running from his life and his habitually drunk father, Chris is drawn into his troubling dreams.
When he finds himself actually living inside his dreams, Chris makes a fatal error in his effort to stop the dreams and return to his "normal" life. As he realizes his mistake has caused an imbalance in both worlds, he takes responsibility for all the damage created and sets out to right his wrongs.
Along the way he encounters beings he could never have imagined and he finds friends and enemies in the most unlikely places. Chris finds the strength to overcome his doubts and fear to fight evil in both his dream world and his "real" life. Supported by a Searcher who has lived in fear her entire life, a Cherazii who has betrayed his oath to defend the Gifted in order to save his own people, and the family he thought he had lost forever, Chris battles to set things right, kill the formidable Mactalde, and finally bring peace to Lael and his own life.
Once I found my footing, I couldn't put this story down and didn't want it to ever come to an end. K.M. Weiland weaves an in-depth tale of good versus evil and does so with graphic detail, deeply crafted characters, and beautiful landscapes. I saw myself riding along with Chris and Allara across the glades, watching armies converge from the castle parapet, traveling the sky trains, and wielding my sword against a might army of Koradians. I envisioned the skies pulling apart, the stars falling, and hailstorms as they destroyed both worlds.
This is a book I definitely recommend to anyone in their teens and older, especially avid fans of the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings series. Fabulous tale I will read over and over again.
